Northern California’s summer of 2009 includes an expanded WaveChaser Series schedule. Our downwind races have been growing in terms of the numbers of participants, and this year there is growth in the number of races offered. Past summers have had three downwind races. This year there are four. These races are designed to take advantage of the consistent summer afternoon winds in the Bay Area.
Unlike our Winter Series races where we offer a variety of courses for all ability levels http://www.wavechaser.com/guide/course.shtml, our Summer Downwind Series only has the long course. Entrants should have the appropriate level of experience and ability.

The date of the US Surfski Championships has been moved up a month to put it in our windy season, and the course has been changed to a point-to-point mostly downwind format. The August 16 WaveChaser race is the weekend before the Surfski Championships, and these two races share the same start and finish lines. If you race the August 16 race, you will paddle 70% of the Surfski Championships single surfski long course.
